Ciné-concert “Les Triplettes de Belleville”

Le Terrible Orchestre de Belleville

Composer Benoît Charest, with his Terrible Orchestre de Belleville, thrusts us back into the poetic and wacky universe of the animated film “The Triplets of Belleville” with an on-stage, swing version of the soundtrack! In 2003, he composed the music of this retro tale with original graphics, produced by Sylvain Chomet. His musical work, which proposes a nostalgic return to the time of Parisian cabarets, 1930s’ jazz and the Hot Club de France, was immediately rewarded, notably with an Oscar for the best original song and a César for the best film music the following year. Today, he is interpreting the scores of The Triplets with his orchestra in sync to the film, which is being projected on screen. A journey through time is guaranteed!

James Carter concert à Monaco

Opening act: James Carter’s Elektrik Outlet

James Carter is one of the most admired saxophonists of his generation, and has contributed to propelling jazz into the future in the past 25 years. His music is fed by profound respect and intimate knowledge of the jazz tradition. Born in 1969 in Detroit, Michigan, James Carter began playing the saxophone at the age of 11, and recorded for the first time with a group of students from Detroit in 1986. Successfully playing a family of reed instruments, from sopranino to double bass saxophones, including the bass clarinet, James Carter hypnotised the world of jazz after arriving in New York in 1988 to play under the auspices of the legendary trumpet-player, Lester Bowie. In 1991, he participated in the album The Organizer. His first album, JC On The Set, released in Japan when Carter was just 23, announced the arrival of an important and powerful musical force in jazz. This time, James Carter is exploring another groove with his new formation, James Carter’s Elektrik Outlet. He is trading his saxophone for an array of electronic equipment and pedals, an artistic choice which gives him the chance to express the “frustrated guitarist” that he often describes himself to be. With this new project, James Carter uses a heterogeneous selection of pieces, exploring other musical universes, sliding from Eddie Harris to Gene Ammons, via Stevie Wonder and Minnie Ripperton.
